Everyone’s Business works with employers to implement an internal response for employees that are experiencing or have previously experienced domestic abuse. When employers take action and respond to domestic abuse we know it saves lives.
Everyone’s Business has three key aims:
- To raise awareness in the workplace about domestic abuse
- To put measures in place to assist employers to support their staff who are enduring or perpetrating abuse
- To assist employees to support their colleagues, via training and policy as a part of the employer’s internal response to domestic abuse
The Everyone’s Business Programme includes a series of offers:
- An individual policy assessment to ascertain where your organisation’s response to domestic abuse currently is, assess what policies and procedures are already in place and support organisations to continue to improve their internal responses.
- Work with HR and other relevant teams and stakeholders to create a domestic abuse response that aligns with the work already in place to support employees
- Accredited domestic abuse training to key stakeholders, such as HR, line managers and nominated staff champions

Why is Everyone’s Business Needed?
Every year 2.4 million adults are affected by domestic abuse in the UK (ONS, 2019).
On average victims experience 50 incidents of abuse before getting effective help (SafeLives 2015: Insights IDVA National Dataset 2013-14. Bristol: SafeLives.). And 12% of those who experience intimate partner violence tell someone at work (Roe, 2008).
For many, the workplace is where we spend most of our time throughout the week. In addition, domestic abuse costs UK businesses £1.9billion a year. (Walby, 2009).
