DAFNI and MissBeez partner with Hestia to host event with survivors of domestic abuse
With International Women’s Day (8th March) just around the corner, we were so excited to be part of a day bringing together some of Hestia’s service users in an event all about Celebrating YOU: Strength, Beauty and Survival.
Attendees on the day were women living in Hestia’s domestic abuse refuges and those using mental health services, the aim being to create a day full of inspiration, self-care and beauty treatments – because for many people, a little bit of indulgent pampering can leave them feeling empowered and transformed.
For some of the women attending, their abusive partners will have dictated their appearance, or made them feel bad or not worthy of spending time on their appearance.
Treatments on the day included make up, manicure and nail services from mobile beauty therapists MissBeez, and hair styling by DAFNI’s expert team using the DAFNI original brush, as well as DAFNI’s new Limited Edition Hair Straightening Brush in Rose Gold.
We’re incredibly thankful to Missbeez and DAFNI for providing their beauty expertise for the day, and to DAFNI for donating £10 from each sale of their new Limited Edition Hair Straightening Brush in Rose Gold to Hestia.
Alongside beauty treatments, the day’s schedule included a number of Hestia’s service users telling their own stories of domestic abuse and their remarkable journeys to recovery, as well as a captivating speech from Margaret V Aberdeen of ‘Break Free of Domestic Violence Forever’.
The day offered a space for peer support and created an opportunity for conversation and healing.
Margaret from ‘Break Free of Domestic Violence Forever’ gives an impassioned talk about her personal journey and the need for self-love and compassion.
Other fantastic moments throughout the day included a performance from upcoming musician Malory, who debuted her song ‘NO MORE’ for our UK SAYS NO MORE campaign, and a final relaxing meditation session with Dao Tran-Boyd.
The talented Malory performs a set for our service users, complete with a sing-a-long to her brand new track ‘NO MORE’, written for Hestia’s UK SAYS NO MORE campaign.
We offer our endless thanks to all those involved, especially DAFNI for their continued support of Hestia – with this event being our third to be held in partnership.
And finally but most importantly, to the wonderful, courageous women who attended, thank you for coming!
