UK SAYS NO MORE and Hestia responds to MOJ’s announcement that the depiction of strangulation in pornography will be banned

Responding to the Ministry of Justice’s announcement that the depiction of strangulation in pornography will be banned in a move to protect women from violence, Sue Harper, Deputy Director of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Prevention at UK Says No More said:

UK Says No More strongly supports the Government’s decision to criminalise depictions of choking and strangulation in pornography through the Crime and Policing Bill.

“There is no safe way to strangle someone – yet when dangerous acts like these are shown in pornography without consequence, they are normalised. This decision marks a vital step in recognising the real, lifelong harm these acts cause.

“This is a crucial moment in tackling harmful sexual behaviours. We now call on the government to set out clear implementation plans, including how this will align with the Online Safety Act. Platforms that profit from such content must be also held to account.”
