UK SAYS NO MORE and Hestia responds to High Court ruling denying Met Police the right to dismiss a police officer whose vetting was withdrawn

Responding to the High Court ruling on 11 February 2025 denying the Met Police the right to dismiss a police officer whose vetting had been withdrawn, Sue Harper, Director of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Prevention at Hestia said:

“This ruling highlights a dangerous gap in the law which needs to be resolved. Where individual police officers pose a risk, it is deeply concerning for all of us – including victim-survivors – to hear that police forces currently do not have sufficient power to act on this and ensure the safety of the public.

“We urge the government to carefully consider the recommendations from the Angiolini Inquiry and Baroness Casey’s review, and to listen to the voices of survivors to ensure that police forces have the ability to take swift action and restore the public’s trust.”
